Edinburgh council's new LED streetlights are very bright, but that's a good thing – Hayley Matthews

At the start of the week, I'd read a post that there was to be a full pink super moon. I'm a hippie at heart and love the moon.

I always feel that the moon affects me and if it's strong enough to pull the tide out, I'm sure it can do some tugging with my emotional energy too.

So lying in bed on the night of the full moon, I saw the brightest light peaking through the black-out curtains. I almost thought there was a space ship hovering outside.

I was really comfortable but wanted to go stare at the moon for a few minutes because that's the kind of think I like to do.

As I reached for the curtains the anticipation of how bright the moon was going to be had me very excited.

However, that excitement quickly turned to sheer disappointment when I saw it wasn't the full pink super moon, but the new council LED lights beaming into my bedroom.

About to go into full rant to Mr Hayley, he quickly stopped me and said how much safer will people feel walking down the road at night, and I couldn't argue.

Then, as I looked back outside, I saw a woman in her mid-20's walking alone down the fully lit and very bright road.

I paused, wishing her a safe and speedy journey home as my partner’s words of wisdom marched around my head.

So yes, these new lights are very very bright, but here's to a safer journey home for those walking home on their own in the dark.
