Fingers crossed for Fringe return this summer - Karen Koren

Spring is in the air, which is a relief as the snow, though very beautiful to look at, meant it was extremely cold. Now there’s snowdrops coming up and it’s not dark at 5pm – things are looking up.

I had my Covid jag this week– yes I am that old! Things really are looking up – though Boris was lying when he said everyone over the age of 70 would be vaccinated by February 15.

They never tell the truth, though I suppose over 15 million having been vaccinated in England is not a bad average.

Scotland has given just over a million vaccinations so far, probably a better ratio.

It doesn’t mean we are out of the woods, I really wish we were.

I can’t wait to be able to go into a pub or have a meal in a restaurant, but I fear it will still be a while yet.

Everything is changing from day to day, so we could have summer holidays back and our precious Festival Fringe returning.

It is all I want for this year, that we have some kind of Fringe back in the city.

We missed it so much last year, and so many businesses in the hospitality and cultural industry suffered enormously, including the Gilded Balloon.

We will fight with all our might to get some kind of entertainment back into the city, even if it has to be outdoor and socially distanced.

We may not get the same number of tourists and visitors that we had pre-Covid; however, there will be locals and visitors from all over the UK coming to enjoy the Fringe, if they are allowed.

If there is no possibility of travelling overseas this summer, we will certainly do our best to make Edinburgh an enjoyable destination for those that want to come.

Edinburgh is the most unique and beautiful city in the world to live in and be a part of. No more so than in August, when it is animated by cultural delights and vibrancy.

There is nowhere in the world I would rather be.
