It’s our day, so we deserve pampering - Fiona Duff

So, did you know that it was International Women’s Day last Monday?

Obviously I have a finger on the pulse, a toe in the water and a nose in the fridge so I am acutely aware of what is going on right now. However, if I hadn’t known I would have after passing a lady person in the street that morning who smiled at me and said “happy Women’s Day”. Which, to be quite honest no-one had ever said to me before. And may never again.

Obviously I have to be careful what I write as being a woman is not as simple as it might have been when this particular day was started. And I ain’t going there, although I will say that the one thing we women like is a bit of pampering and lots of cream for our physogs. I know this is true because I go through pots of the stuff every year, yet the Nivea For Men which was in my husband’s Christmas stocking 3 years ago lies unopened by his bedside today.

However, as much as we strive to have perfection we have to wonder if there is such a thing. I only say because Edinburgh’s best facialist, who I have known in that business for over 20 years has, with several others, started The Skin Collective. Elizabeth McCarron does have the most amazingly beautiful face (she’ll be blushing right now) but at times a facial turns into a counselling session because she’s just a fantastic person. They point out that filtering and whatever you do on Instagram can make one look perfect and in the meantime (my words) make others feel that their slight imperfections are humungous.

I know that I will have probably have lost so many male readers, but it’s your girlfriends who are feeling insecure because they might not look like the airbrushed Kardashians. Tell them to love themselves. And check out @TheSkinCollaborative because we’ve all got a spot or two but, you know what? It doesn’t make you a bad person. Every day in my diary is Women’s Day.
