With the changeable weather, people are on the lookout for things to do which are in a safe environment, given coronavirus concerns.

Scotland’s museums and galleries have launched an initiative map to help attract visitors to the 419 museums and galleries across Scotland.

You will definitely find something for you. There’s something there for everyone, regardless if you are interested in archaeology, arts, community, fashion, geology, history, nature, people, transport, science or technology.

The new interactive online map has been launched as part of the #MuseumsAreGo campaign which makes it easier to find out more about the different venues, opening times and links to their websites. Go to bit.ly/MuseumsAreGoScotsman

National Museum of Scotland begins phased reopening

Edinburgh has a wide offering, including: National Museum of Scotland on Chambers Street, the Scottish National Gallery at the bottom of the Mound, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, the contemporary art at the Collective in the city observatory at the top of Calton Hill and the Queen’s Gallery at Holyrood House.

Less well-known museums include St Cecilia’s Hall Music Museum off the Royal Mile, the National Mining Museum at Newton Grange and the Preston Grange museum in East Lothian. Popular places to visit include Royal Yacht Britannia at Leith, Hopetoun House near South Queensferry and Edinburgh Castle, which is home to the National War Museum in Edinburgh.
