Marketing Edinburgh has run out of money, its accounts are late and questions are growing about the councillors who took over the board, writes John McLellan.

More writhing is going on behind the scenes at the city council as the administration tries to dig itself out of the deepening hole it has dug itself by deciding to bury Marketing Edinburgh and its staff.

The old Marketing Edinburgh management team left enough money to wind up the company, but warned councillors that if the arms-length company was to be closed it would need to be done quickly because the cash would quickly run out.

Well, guess what? The SNP-Labour-Green cabal voted to close it down, the new directors hesitated, delays have gone on, and now the cash has duly run out and the accounts are months late.

The question is, have those councillors who took over the board acted in the best interests of the company, as required by law?

And who has been advising them?
