The campaign to resist the development of Moredunvale Green for a housing development has got off to a good start and is bearing fruit.

The decision by the Council to suspend the current site investigations is a clear sign that it has been rattled.

The Council will, of course, contend that it is merely listening to local public opinion but there is no doubt that they have been surprised by the local opposition and the tactics they have deployed.

Camping out on the green was sure to command attention and this paper has already devoted several column inches to this issue much to the delight of the campaigners.

A well-organised opposition group which shows no sign of going away is always in with a shout of achieving its aims as history informs us.

Local organisers are quite right when they assert that this is only a temporary reprieve and the campaign will continue until it is concluded in favour of local opinion

The Housing Convener, Councillor Kate Campbell, said that “any plans that do come forward will be shaped by the local community and will reflect their aspirations for their local area”.

So it looks as though she has well and truly nailed her colours to the mast and that will bring some comfort to the campaigners but they have signalled their determination to run the campaign until they are successful and I, for one, would not bet against them.
