A bit of self-care and me-time can be a rarity and even more so in the current lockdown situation. Don’t judge, but I reckon I’m on day 12 of dry shampoo.

I’ve spent at least two-thirds of lockdown in my PJs and have forgotten how to co-ordinate clothes that actually look good together. I just seem to look a riot no matter what I do.

I’ve even started to wear a hair scarf so I don’t need to brush my hair. Seriously, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a mouse living in my barnet. Actually, there might be a few, a mouse hotel maybe, with a separate swimming pool on the side. Anyway, I digress. But my point is that it feels like such an effort and with nowhere to go, the motivation is low!

So after realising that my standards were slipping I decided to do something that I’ve not done for years, and I mean years. I booked a manicure!

I just had the urge to get a little treat and it’s something I never ever do. I wasn’t quite brave enough yet to let someone tackle my feet so I decided to go for the safe option and book the manicure only, keeping my tree-climber feet out of public view for the meantime.

Then, shortly after booking a nail appointment I got a call from the hairdressers saying she had a cancellation and did I want it? It’s like the beauty gods are sending me a message to get my bum in gear. I don’t think I’ll recognise myself after a hair and nails makeover and I’ll be all done up with nowhere to go!
