More than 3.7 million adults have already had their first vaccination and more than 2.6 million have had both. Last week I got my second jag at the Edinburgh Conference and Exhibition Centre. It was an efficient, quick, and almost completely pain-free experience.

To make sure that everyone gets their vaccination, the Scottish Government has launched a new online portal to self-register for the first dose.

The initiative is aimed at people who are not registered at a GP practice, have moved about a bit or have another reason they fear will lead to not being invited for a vaccination appointment. Up until now, the system has been used to ensure unpaid carers got the jag.

Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Health Humza Yousaf said: “The evidence shows that vaccination is helping to protect people from serious health harms and there is no doubt it is vaccination which offers us the best route out of this pandemic.

“The vaccination programme is available for every adult in Scotland I urge everyone to take the opportunity to protect themselves, their families and their community.”

By visiting the online portal, people who self-register will get a text or email with information about an appointment, which they can amend if the time or location does not work for them.
