Scotland football team shows rugby side how its done by going unbeaten for a year – Angus Robertson

It’s not a thing that Scotland can often boast about, but the national football team has stretched its unbeaten run to over a year. On Sunday evening, Lyndon Dykes' second international goal secured a one-nil Nations League win over Slovakia.

The second half winner by the Queens Park Rangers forward means that Steve Clarke's men top Group B2 and have now recorded five wins and two draws in the seven games since last year’s defeat by Russia.

Last Thursday Scotland defeated Israel in a Euro 2020 play-off semi-final penalty shootout.

The game wasn’t a thing of beauty and the penalty decider was a nail biter, but it leaves a showdown with Serbia as the decider for Scotland getting to the first international competition in a long time. In the meantime, Clarke's side faces the Czech Republic at Hampden tomorrow evening.

Meanwhile, Edinburgh’s club sides have been celebrating success with Hibs winning 2-1 against Cove Rangers and Hearts one-nil against Cowdenbeath.

Shame the capital’s rugby side didn’t secure a win against Munster at the weekend, although they should have.

Edinburgh were winning until three minutes from the end of the match in Ireland when a conversion gave the home side a 25-23 result.

Next up is a match with Connacht before international rugby duties kick in. Plenty of Edinburgh players will be on the park when Scotland play Wales on 31 October in the rescheduled fixture from the 2020 Guinness Six Nations.

Hopefully, the Scotland rugby team can emulate the success of the national football side.
