Sky Sports ignores Edinburgh derby again as meaningless Old Firm fixtures dominate – Steve Cardownie

It beggars’ belief that yet another Edinburgh derby has been ignored by Sky Sports.

The last game of the season between Hearts and Hibs at Tynecastle Park has been given the cold shoulder in favour of a meaningless game which features one of the “Old Firm”. That’s three out of the last four derbies that have been given the same treatment.

There is also the not unimportant question of probably the most meaningful fixture in the top six, namely Hearts vs Aberdeen which is also not scheduled for a broadcast. Both teams are competing for the much-coveted third spot and European qualification but even that is not sufficient for Sky Sports to show the game.

Not only that, but the relegation battles in the bottom six will not feature on TV either. As teams attempt to claw themselves above the bottom two, it promises to be a monumental scrap but all the games that are to be screened live are confined to the top six and, surprise surprise, all feature either Rangers or Celtic.

Celtic will win the league and Rangers will come second. It hardly takes a sporting genius to reach that conclusion, so what influenced Sky to display such blatant bias? Money that’s what. More subscriptions come from Celtic and Rangers supporters than from the other Scottish teams and that is the bottom line for Sky.

Scottish football supporters are being deprived of seeing what is likely to be an exciting finish to the season because Sky couldn’t give a toss about them or what’s good for the game up here as long the tills keep metaphorically ringing. Take a bow Sky!
