Talk of the Town: On song thanks to Katie and Twitter

YESTERDAY we told how Edinburgh songbird Nina Nesbitt has gone from Balerno High School pupil to headline act in the blink of an eye. Now she could be about to hit the heights thanks to, of all people, Katie Price.

Katie, formerly known as model Jordan, has declared herself a fan, tweeting to her 1.6 million followers: “Hey guys check out and go and support @ninanesbitt”.

The high-profile reality TV star’s tweet was then picked up and re-tweeted by Shane Richie to be read by his 34,957 followers.

Nina starts her first UK headline tour on Tuesday, while her EP The Apple Tree is climbing up the charts, and her reported friendship with fellow singer songwriter Ed Sheeran appears to be ticking along nicely.

Seems there’s going to be plenty of #ninanesbitt to come . . .

From Russian to a New Town manifesto launch

IT’S not every day you stumble into a dusty committee room to hear two SNP leaders speaking Russian.

But Comrade Cardownie and Comrade Rankin added a touch of The Hunt for Red October to proceedings as they launched their manifesto launch at the party’s New Town clubrooms.

City Centre councillor Alasdair Rankin studied the language during a prestigious career in Whitehall . . . and Nationalist city leader Steve Cardownie on a road trip to Kiev. Both are hoping the SNP tidal wave of votes continues on polling day – and that it won’t be dosvedanya after May 3.

Going 26 extra miles

WHILE current Hearts stars will be going the extra mile on Scottish Cup final day next month, one former Jambo has 26 to cover.

Ex Tynecastle goalkeeper Roddy McKenzie retired from the game after leaving Queen of the South in January – and promptly swapped his football boots for running shoes. The 36-year-old will be in London for the marathon this Sunday.

Small Fry for Rankin

IT’S been a while since we brought you an Ian Rankin twittering so time to make amends.

Following news Stephen Fry will star in the latest adaptation of a Rankin book, the author tweeted:

“if Mr @stephenfry wishes to go to the Oxford Bar, I’m happy to act as sherpa...”

Certainly sounds like something to file under Quite Interesting.
