Talk of the Town: SuBo knows the score with musical

IT is often a posthumous honour and the preserve of screen legends or cultural figureheads.

But a musical charting the life of rags-to-riches singing sensation Susan Boyle is gearing up to tour the country – with the West Lothian star making a guest appearance.

Portraying SuBo in the show I Dreamed A Dream, which starts next March, is Rab C Nesbitt actress Elaine C Smith.

SuBo said: “I am thrilled to be part of the musical and very much looking forward to stepping on stage and performing with the cast. It is an honest portrayal of my life and has been a cathartic process to be involved in.”

Jack’s fantasy football

YOUNG artist Jack Henderson continues to amaze with his colourful fundraising creations.

He’s recently completed pictures of everything from two bumblebees riding a bike to a portrait of Gabby Logan, husband Kenny and their dog, Sydney, after appearing on her show.

But surely Jack must have been stretched by one recent request.

Make like an ape

IF you dread the thought of going to the gym, the folk at the Go Ape treetop walk in Beecraigs are trying to tempt you into the great outdoors instead.

They say that the average session of swinging through the trees on their aerial walkways burns enough calories for a woman to cancel out the equivalent calories of a bacon double cheeseburger, and for men, the equivalent of a six-inch pepperoni pizza. But what about the calories of the large stiff drink to calm our nerves afterwards?

Office that’s just the job

FINDING a job that makes you happy can be tricky in these troubled times – but at least some city staff appear to enjoy office life.

Workers at Scotstoun House in South Queensferry enjoy a relaxing open-plan design and colourful art deco chairs, all of which helped the development be named as one of the best workplaces in the country at the British Council for Offices’ national awards in London.

Arup Scotland, an independent firm of designers, planners, engineers, consultants and technical specialists, took the decision to refurbish and extend its 1960s building, originally designed by the firm’s founder.

And judges honoured the refreshing, revamped head office as “completely contemporary” – all of which hopefully makes that Monday trip to the office a little more bearable.
