most people had probably never heard of Cameron House community centre before last year.

For those that don’t know, it’s a relatively small centre much valued by the residents of the Prestonfield area, particularly for its work with local young people. The bizarre events in which its staff have been inadvertantly caught up has turned it into a byword for everything that is wrong with old-style local councils - botched work, questionable contracts, harassment of a whistleblower, failures to tackle wrong-doing by council staff.

We thought we had seen it all, but now allegations are emerging of sectarian abuse apparently being tolerated within the local authority.

Just like so much else in this sorry saga, we don’t know the whole truth yet. The council must urgently investigate - something it has yet to confirm it will do - and ensure the allegations are dealt with transparently.

This is something they have remarkably failed to do with the past complaints. It would all be darkly comical if it hadn’t come close to destroying people’s lives.

The events surrounding Cameron House are now a festering sore at the council. Someone needs to sort this out and provide some answers.
