Hayley Matthews: Touch wood, I'm over my superstitions about baby

I'm quite a superstitious person and really don't like to tempt fate, but the 'organised me' has surpassed the 'superstitious me' by a huge amount.

’m not sure if it’s an old wives’ tale or if it’s just something that’s been blown out of proportion over the years, but bringing the pram and the car seat into the house before the baby is born is not sitting well with me.

However, the organised me is delighted that I assembled the Maxi-Cosi Zellia (that a good friend recommended for city mums) in under 20 minutes.

Our six-year-old has been getting in some practice as he’s been wheeling the cats about in it (don’t worry I’ll give it a once over with the Hoover).

Hayley Matthews: Pre-natal depression hit hard after praying for baby

I’ve not folded it in half and packed it away just yet as looking at it makes it all quite real.

It’s also helped me feel excited that we’ll soon be pushing a baby about as proud parents, marching along Portobello promenade like a couple of clucking hens.

It’s been a difficult few months dealing with pre-natal depression. However, playing about with the attachments for the pram and the car seat have been helping me feel ready for those walks out in the cold but sunny, winter days once the baby is here.

When it comes to superstitions, we need to weigh up the benefits because sometimes there is more good to be done than harm from it all. I think it definitely helps that we’re second-time parents and we’re being more organised than superstitious this time round. So here’s hoping all goes well, touch wood! Go on then, touch some wood!
