John Gibson: Grandad shows his Will power

HERE'S a word in the royal lug: 'Dinnae strain yersel, son. A 20-hour week will be the death o' ye,' I'm saying.

Prince William has been slagged off, his critics claiming that he is a “modern working father and husband”.

An aide reveals that our future king works an average 80 hours a month to enable him to combine his royal and charity work with his job as an air ambulance pilot. He’s doing it strictly by the book, in line with Civil Aviation Authority rules. To boot he has the backing of his granny and father.

He is taking it all in his stride. To date he has carried out two official engagements this year and they are watching him like a hawk, with the East Anglian Air Ambulance service insisting that he is doing a “very important job”.

As long as Prince Philip is keeping well, that’s my only concern really.

Phil is still my favourite royal. At his age he keeps getting through a pile of engagements. Never a shirker.

Seems like he’ll go on forever. I know he won’t, of course, but stick in there, Your Highness.

You’d see, if you read the papers, like I do, that Boris Johnson was shouting the odds over the weekend. A bit barmy but even his dad, who looks like him, speaks of his son as though he’s not quite the full shilling. Which doesn’t let him off the hook, it has to be said.
