John Gibson: To be Frank, this is some good news

FIRST, the good news. We have coming our way 25 million midges per square hectare.

Like I say, you’re getting the good news first and you’ll be scratching your parts in anticipation.

Can’t stand the sight of the things and, far as I know, there’s no cure-all ointment. But, in fact, there is some good news. News that will make you double up with laughter. Frank Spencer is to make a comeback. But it’s just a one-off Some Mothers Do ’Ave ’Em special.

The buzz is that Crawford at 74 is to reunite with his on-screen wife Betty, played by Michele Dotrice, in the name of Sport Relief on March 18. The sketch will culminate in a run-in with cyclist Sir Bradley Wiggins at the cycling centre in the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in London.

It’s said that Crawford is fair chuffed to have been asked to bring back Frank for the charity.

It’s a mutual delight with Dotrice, 67, saying that it will be an “absolute joy” to be reunited with Frank.

Everybody appears to be happy, with Sir Bradley claiming he is a “huge fan” of the character.

It is an “absolute honour” to be asked to feature alongside such an icon of television – particularly for such a great cause, he said.

Geri and Berry

I have news of a Mediterranean tart. Former Spice Girl Geri Horner has done the business for the Great Sport Relief Bake Off. Even judge Mary Berry stuck her hand out for a second slice.

Mrs Horner, formerly Geri Halliwell and Ginger Spice in the girl band, also made a chocolate and beetroot tray bake and a biscuit depiction of Greg Rutherford’s Olympic long jump.

Mrs Horner’s opponents included John Simpson, the journalist, and former England footballer Jermaine Jenas.

They were rather pathetic, it has to be said.
