Council in legal move to implement controlled parking zones in Edinburgh

James Whitelaw

When the cash cow of cars run out they will find another way of robbing the residents of this city. Where do the council find these people that seem to be hell bent of knackering up this city’s traffic? Between Cllr Lesley Macinnes and council leader Adam McVey we’re doomed.

The desperation for more and more cash to squander grows ever more each day in council world. So now they want to tax people more for parking to go to work to earn money on which they will already be paying high taxes anyway. Once we have congestion charging, road pricing and giant parking charges, every service that relies on transport will see absolutely massive price increases. This means tradesmen, deliveries, taxis, etc.

Robert Howlieson

Chinese Communist Party are contacting our council leaders for advice on how to run their country.

John Hewit

Why do I get the feeling the council wont be happy until there are parking permits for every street in the entire city?

Adele Borthwick

These people clearly don't live or work in Leith. I understand times are changing, there are more cars on the road and procedures need to be in place to help. But Leith has had such a hard time with the tram works, Covid and road closures. As a business owner its so tough. If they start to charge for parking there won't be any business left.

Absolute disgrace. End of Manderston Street closed because of tram works. No through traffic as it is, and now going to hit businesses and residents with parking permits. Not got a clue. I went to the last council meetings and they hadn’t even seen the streets, just looked at drawings. Apparently it was all drawn up by someone in London. Total joke.

Steven Oliver

It was only going to be a matter of time before this happened. CEC just can't help themselves. I thought Lesley Hinds was bad but Lesley Macinnes is far, far worse.

Brian Monaghan

Careful what you wish for people. Every time you want work done in your home, each tradesman needs to now factor parking into your quote. Average parking cost per hour for parking is £2.50/2.80 per hour, so possibly an extra £20 a day onto your job.

Lucien Romano

Another tax to squander on trams and Spaces For Traffic Cones. Because you can be certain of one thing: not a penny of it will be spent on essential services that residents need.

A photograph taken at Falkland Hill in Fife, one of Scotland’s popular walking destinations, shows multiple parked vehicles blocking a small country road as police warn people to stick to the coronavirus rules.

No matter what part of Edinburgh and the Lothian you live in, you can go for a walk. You don't need to drive, just go for a walk where you stay – simples.

Fiona Stewart

We experienced a similar volume of parked cars in Fife at a local forest walk, but everyone that we saw, which was not many, were socially distancing.

The advice states you can travel up to five miles from the boundary of your local authority area for exercise; it is likely people from the coast are travelling to enjoy the snow. In the warmer months people from these more central areas travel to the coast to enjoy the beach. Organised exercise for under 12's is permitted and so people may travel within the area for those purposes. With this being a second lockdown, many are looking for a bit of different scenery and experience.

John Hood

You don't need a car to exercise. Fine them.

Am I surprised? Not at all. Some people think they are immune, not only to Covid but to sticking to the rules.

Darren Innes

Why are they warning people? Covid has been here almost a year. If they don’t get it by now, they're not going to; we need to start hitting them hard with fines.

Steven Oliver

Covidiots of the highest order. They'll be the first to complain if Nicola Sturgeon imposes yet more restrictions in a few weeks' time, totally oblivious to the fact that they're the reason as to why restrictions are being imposed.

Lindsay Swan

Exercise should be limited to within one mile of your home address, there’s no need to travel any further.
