Green light for £13.8 million Hillend Destination winter sport centre

Liam Dickson

This will be good, glad to see something rather than houses or Starbucks been built, be good if they added on some bike trails or bike jumps with a possible lift

I drive past this many a time over many years but never see anyone on it. Is there any point in pumping that much money into it?

Mark Boyle

Spend it on homelessness and overcrowding instead.

Phil Alexander

How can they afford this amount of money after losing £11 million already? Questions should be asked.

Susan Randall

I hope people realise this is a Midlothian Council application and not Edinburgh Council, so no good talking about Edinburgh facilities needing the cash.

Scott Kirk

It’s needed updating for years.

Stevo Rae

In a pandemic, billions in debt, so glad they got there priorities right!

Sandy Gilmour

Love this exciting development.

Clearly the artist impression should have had grey sky, dreary weather, massive tailbacks on the bypass, double parking on streets because the car parks are over subscribed with litter attached to bushes in the surrounding areas.

Morag Hill

Hopefully upgrading the road first!

Alan Rumble

So when things go wrong, like last time when Hillend had cash problems, will Edinburgh Council, who use it regularly, stump up the readies?

Callum Jeavons

So they've greenlit a winter sports centre that will make next to nothing during the longer summers we are experiencing… Interested to find out why the mountain biking centre hasn't even been started or fully greenlit yet. That was proposed back in, I think, 2015, and had a consultation in 2019 that had plenty of support. It was meant to have MTB trails, pump track, camping facilities and aerial rope courses... would make considerably more money every year than a winter sports centre..

Davie Dalglish Klopp

Meanwhile, the roads are crumbling and major potholes everywhere.

kids starving, people committing suicide, no support for the elderly and mental health deteriorating, not to mention jobs being lost, domestic abuse rising scarily, homelessness being rife .... let’s fix the ski slope!

Michael Mcmillan

£13 million for a few carpets to be laid on a small hill?

Yvonne Clark

Let's hope we are all allowed out by then.

Mags Marcynuik

Is it British version of post-Brexit Alps?

James Ripley

Does the proposal still include the UKs longest zipline?

Heidi Kuehne

What an eyesore. And a boondoggle.

Scott Shaw

Spend it saving our libraries, gym centres, youth clubs. Once again there is no money for communities to spend but the tourists are accommodated. Shambles.

Mark Donlevy

Fantastic news. Learned to ski at Hillend. Why would you not support the creation of an excellent outdoor facility on the outskirts of a city that is miles away from real slopes?

Anne Amato

I don’t think it is only for tourists. My grandson went there for snowboarding lessons, he is only 12 and lives in Edinburgh. I think it is another good thing for the kids as it is for all ages if it goes to plan it will have a soft play area for younger kids . Somewhere that kids from all over Scotland can spend the day out in the fresh air building a health body through sport

They will have to do something about the roads in that area first!

Steven Ritchie

Hillend has been struggling for decades. With Covid around for how long, how can the number crunchers think this is going to make money? Stop investing in stuff we don’t actually need right now. Tunnel to Kirkcaldy costing billions? Stop dreaming, eh!

Frank Brown

Will you be able to get a tram there?

Rona Fuller

I think the update of the Eye Pavilion would be much more appreciated by those who rely on it rather than being relocated to Livingston.
