Officials are drawing up plans to stop Edinburgh's bins overflowing if strikes do take place over the festival

Warren Burrows

“We won’t have the city centre strewn with litter”. If ever a comment from one of our councillors shows how far removed from reality they are it is this. The utter stupidity of that statement is breathtaking. What he really means is that we won't have the city strewn with litter for the tourists. Still waiting on you answering my e-mails re the underfunding of the cleansing dept. Cammy.

They can’t manage it for the other 11 months of the year so good luck to them

Get the councillors and all office-based staff including all managers out to help.

Lorraine Blyth

What!? The city has been strewn with litter like never before and that’s without a strike!

Overflowing bins throughout central Edinburgh each and every day, and worse during the festivals.

Carol Paterson

Thats a joke. I was there for the month of July and couldn't get over how many bins were overflowing and the festival hadn't even started.

The litter in Edinburgh is a disgrace. We were up on Saturday evening for the festival - a huge embarrassment.

Ae the clowncil living in cloud cuckoo land? The city is minging, not just the town centre but the whole of Edinburgh.

You would think they were already on strike with the state of the streets. Rubbish lying everywhere and bins overflowing! The place is an embarrassment!

Scott MacKellar

What? Drawing up plans to stop overflowing bins if a strike goes ahead, how about doing something about them now? The streets and parks are an absolute disgrace with overflowing bins and litter everywhere. Get it sorted as our city is a disgrace.

The bins are overflowing and rubbish strewn everywhere and dog poo bins overflowing as it is, and when the bins are eventually emptied the bin men don’t clear up half the rubbish they drop.

Alan Davidson

Lead by example Cammy. Get your gloves and hi viz on and take Andrew Kerr and other directors from their ivory towers with you. I'll bet it will be the hardest day’s work you and they have ever done.

Erm, have they been out to the streets of Edinburgh lately?

Ken Lee

The litter box needs a redesign. Rubbish is easily blown out from the open mouth.

I suppose with this comment the councillors will be putting on yellow jackets and clearing the rubbish from the streets!

Caroline Minty Orr

I think the councillors should start earning their over inflated wages and take a long walk round Edinburgh to see the mess it is in without a strike. I don't mean a wander round princes street, George Street, Regent Road etc, I mean Muirhouse, Pilton, Drylaw, Wester Hailes, Moredun, Niddrie, Wardieburn etc. See the mess the city is really in.

No one throws litter around so expertly as the British. I've been six times in Germany and on one day in one holiday I saw one item of litter. In all those holidays I did not once see anyone who looked like their job was to pick up litter. I easily figured out why. There was no litter. This is a concept that we Brits find hard to undestand.

Dave Shields

What about the residents the other 11 months a year? You know, the ones who actually pay the council to supposedly clean up the tourists’ mess.

i went to the shop this morning and saw broken glass, dirty nappies, take away containers, food packaging, food such as chips and pizza crusts all over the pavements and bin areas- Icould go on. It seems what the council are saying doesn’t quite match the facts.

Avril Mcvay

I have to constatly report overflowing binsat the Shore. Totally disgusting that you have to report this as the Shore is a busy place and the bucket they put there also says dog poo bags.

You'll need a bigger motor than that and lots of them. They canny cope any other time and this will be no different. If the job’s to be done then give the cleansing dept the funds they need.
