It's time Edinburgh City Council gave its car driving citizens a break. They have consistently introduced measure after measure to make it difficult or expensive for normal working class people to carry on using a car. I've been a SNP voter most of my life but this out of touch council needs to be removed from office. It saddens me to say that, but this council have totally ignored the will of the people of Edinburgh. The consultation process was met with a 16 to 1 majority of rejection of the plan. How can it go ahead?

Eddie Kew

It's not the vehicles but these councillors who shall be removed very soon!

The SNP, Greens and Labour have forced this through for their own agenda instead of listening to their constituents. I note McVey is the only SNP candidate in his ward in May, a cynical attempt to get voted back in with no competition from his own party. Macinness is one of two SNP candidates in her ward. If you can't bring yourself to vote for another party then vote for the other SNP candidate, that way we may get someone prepared to listen to their constituents.

Going to be a lot of street parking in the suburbs when those living within the zone can't get their cars to their homes.

Chris Horne

One of the cleanest air cities in Europe yet the SNP supported by the Greens have ensured the public consultation has been ignored. Watch out - there are more anti car measures in the masterplan should the current SNP administration be voted back in in May.

Edinburgh once had such beautiful, wide streets. When other cities were experiencing traffic congestion and pollution, Edinburgh fared relatively well. That is, until David Begg got his hands on it. So, undo all the damage he did. Make one-way streets two-way, remove speed-bumps, chicanes and the bollards which close off perfectly good roads. Set the traffic lights in sequence, so that cars can get through more than one set at a time. Remove the bus-lanes, cycle-lanes and 20mph zones and the "problems" will be solved.

I'm sure the public voted against a toll to drive in the city. Why didn't they allow the public to vote on it again?

Donna Danielle Stars

Great, so city centre events now will be an extra cost for trade business for events people like me. Extra costs at every corner - it’s ridiculous. We are going backwards not forward. There will be a charge for every road in the near future on top of road tax.

Gavin Jarvie

I drive a diesel vehicle and think this is the way to go. How many folk have taken the time to walk to or from work during rush hour traffic? The fumes are definitely not healthy. Whether the planned area is right or not is another question, as the St John’s road should be included and some roads over past George Street, Queen Street, Broughton Street, Commercial Street, the Shore, Constitution Street and Seafield are all equally unpleasant in rush hour. Covering the city centre can only be good for everyone’s health and I suspect there will be exceptions for disabled drivers or passengers.

Paul Mc Dougall

There could've been 250,000 objections to a couple of yes votes and they'd still go ahead.

Any vehicle now on roads reduced to single lanes causing gridlock are going to be producing more pollution.

Cllr Macinnes’s car war continues. The people of Gilmerton will have their say in May.

Irene Winton

Edinburgh Council is causing all the problems, making drivers drive miles round everywhere with the Spaces for People scheme, road closures etc.

Davie Barnett

It’s a joke. Only people with new cars get to drive in the city. Screwing the poor again.

Edinburgh will end like a ghost town people will just stop shopping there

Try fixing the potholes and blooming flood areas when it rains first! We car drivers are paying an arm and a leg and you are still trying to get more money out of us to get new cars !

Mark Bennion

I live in the proposed LEZ with an older car which I need for my job, so do I just give up my job and go on the dole or have to get into debt to buy a newer model ? This council is so out of touch with the people of Edinburgh.
