Low Emission Zones - your views online

Notice how they never went into detail what difference the LEZ will have on emissions. From what I have read it only marginally lowered emissions in London. Must have made the surrounding areas worse as they are increasing the size of LEZ in London. Why force the most polluting cars to detour for miles.
George Bathgate
First of all our crap roads will need resurfacing! The residents will require a healthy grant to purchase the required vehicles. For some reason London charge offending vehicles £12.50 per day to access the areas. What’s the point of that? The polluting vehicle is still causing the damage and proves nothing. The way round it is to only allow newer vehicles. I own a Morris Minor that I take to the classic car shows. This will put an end to them.

Hide AdA motor vehicle that goes into a garage for its MOT and passes the gas emissions test, why should it be banned from the city centre no matter what year, as the emissions are set by the government?

The online consultation stated they were going ahead regardless of public opinion, so it was hardly worth filling it out, now this. Seriously undemocratic.
Steven Colquhoun
It's pretty ironic that oor cooncil has created 'High Emmission' zones by shifting the traffic, creating gridlock areas.
Manly Stevenson
Motorists are just cash cows nowadays. Spaces for People, 20mph zones, speed bumps and diversions are adding to the problem.

Hide AdEvery road in Edinburgh is so bad. This council should be spending money on repairing them as a priority. Even many third world countries have better road infrastructures than Edinburgh.

Clowncil are very good at going ahead with schemes which, when asking for public opinion and getting a negative response, they duly go ahead anyway. We should have learned by now that they move in their own disturbed and twisted little world, flying in the face of decency, fairness and listening to what the electorate really want and consider fair.
Frank Brown
Of course they are; why start listening to the public now?
Stooart Kyal
It’s a disaster. Can’t be bothered going to Edinburgh these days. Prefer Glasgow as less hassle.
Kenny Dickson
Do you get a reduction in road tax if you have an old, well-maintained vehicle that is banned from public roads?
Darren McLeod
Sounds like congestion charges but under a new name.

How can they talk about low emission zones when all they do is cause congestion with all the roadworks going on?
Ross Munro
I get the need to do something about reducing emissions and pollution caused by vehicles, but these streets are owned by the public, paid with taxes by the public. This should have been put to a vote by the people, not rammed down everyone’s throat.
Alistair McGregor
Maybe if CEC hadn’t created so much of the congestion themselves in and around Edinburgh, they wouldnt have to create "zones". Although surely, if you are paying your "road tax" or whatever you wish to name it, then do you not have the rights to drive on the roads and not be excluded?

Hide AdDue to Edinburgh being by the sea, all pollution is blown away. Manchester is trying to bring this in but the people are starting to revolt and ripping the signage down, even the cameras have been smashed already. It will mean shops and business closing and most tradesmen having to pass on the cost to their customers. Most buses and HGV and van deliveries will stop. The only way to get things moving is to take back your city, by removing all the planters and getting the roads reopened - do it yourselves.
Andrew Davidson
What's the point of having an elected council who ignore the the public’s opinion? We're getting more like Russia every day.
Stephen Gifford
Just let's ban every car and lorry, plant trees in the Zone, move out business, leave the roads as they are, broken.
