Nicola Sturgeon promises route map out of lockdown next week but warns Easter holidays are off

Ally Phillips Snr

I don’t often get involved in politics but who do you think could do the job any better, considering not one single person knew how to handle this pandemic when it started? I think personally she is doing a grand job and FAR better than Boris.

I understand we are all in uncharted territory, but we cannot keep cancelling life anymore. We need to start living again. The seconds and minutes and hours do not stop because there’s a pandemic, we need an exit plan now.

Nick Paolozzi

Should Edinburgh not be in tier 1 or 2 at the moment based on current hospitalisations? Thought this was all about protecting the NHS capacity.

Claire AA Eadie

Not interested in holidays for Easter, just when we can get about in our own regions and see loved ones again

William Dow

Strange that she can say in advance what we cannot do, but at the same time she cannot give an indication of what data will trigger the return of our liberties!

A family due to arrive home in Edinburgh had their flight cancelled and are now trapped abroad unable to pay the £4350 quarantine fee required to return

Frances Jones

Its your own fault. Families in Scotland can’t even go to funerals and you went to Pakistan. Wow, sorry your mother passed, but I think only you can sort this out.

June Spoonie Myles

Sorry, but there are families in the UK who can't go to family funerals due to lockdown restrictions, yet he thought it wise to fly to Pakistan during a pandemic. The mind boggles. I haven’t seen my youngest son since last year because he lives in Edinburgh and I live in Fife. Haven't seen my mum since last year either.

Bryan Wood

The mandatory quarantine didn’t just pop up overnight, they were publicly announced weeks ago. If he went to a funeral In Pakistan in January, which let's be honest is at least 18 days ago, why did he simply not just come home before they started?

Many, many folk have been denied attending close family funerals even within the confines of the UK, let alone travelling to another continent under the conditions.

Lesley Mason

It’s painful that millions of people have not been able to attend family funerals. He broke the rules and went so reap the consequences. And before anyone starts on me, I’m heartbroken that I could not go to Australia for a family funeral.

Janice Scott

Thousands of people haven’t been able to attend family funerals. This family dismissed this and travelled anyway. I don’t think it’s being harsh to say they will just have to stay where they are until it’s safe to travel without any restrictions.

Dale Denton

You won’t be the only one. It’s a bad time for lots of us. Sorry for your loss. On the positive you are in Pakistan with your family. Keep safe.

It is going to be the same with others who live in Edinburgh but have family in other countries. If a similar situation happens I would forced to stay in this country as I am not rich enough to pay for hotel quarantine.

Emma Nicol-Hodgeson

Their flight home was due the day before the mandatory quarantine but got cancelled! No one is to blame on Scotland’s side for the cancellation. Sorry for your loss, but this is an unfortunate timing of a flight cancellation. Perhaps insurance might cover costs since the flight was cancelled?

Debbie Quinn

I live in England with my husband, his family are from Scotland. We can't go to visit my father-in-law, even to just drive up and see him outside for 10 minutes. Stay with your family and friends in Pakistan until this is over simple as.

Hugh Mccauley

Exactly what does the gentleman want? To scrap the necessity to be put in a hotel, involving changing policy in Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Or to be given funds by public or government to pay for it? I'm unclear.

Just have his flight touch down in Dublin for 30 seconds before returning him to Edinburgh. That's the loophole isn't it?

Diane Smith

Well, obviously has family in Pakistan, so that is where you need to stay till flights start and isolation ends. Thought it was illegal to fly anyway.
