Quarantine hotels for airport arrivals - your views online

"More of a loophole than a mistake. They flew direct from the US, situations like this need to be clarified”

Quarantine hotels

A father and daughter who were among the first international arrivals to check into one of Scotland's quarantine hotels were told they could leave just hours later because of a loophole

Lynne Hainsworth

Poor guy must have been exhausted. I hope they don't charge him for the night. What a dreadful muddle the airport are in. They must be furious being landed with a new set of half-baked plans.

Utter madness. Thankfully Covid knows that if you don’t fly direct and you have a short internal connecting flight then you are fine. Sigh!

Steve Aitchison

And there we have it ladies and gentlemen, the loophole that needs to be followed in order to get round the £1750 charge. Wonder how many people will now be re-routing through Dublin, London etc. This policy has more holes than my kitchen sieve.

Maria Jose

Then what's the point on this law? It makes no sense at all that a person comes from Brazil, for example, but as they do it via London or Ireland then they haven't got to stay at the quarantine hotel. Who made this absurd law this way? I hope they fix that loophole.

Yuliya Kozak

Why would they go and tell people? They got lucky and should have just stayed quiet about it. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot.

No one should be travelling out or into the country, full stop. Loopholes, errors or not, he should now get his own transport to his home in Fife. How thoughtless of him. No regard for other people.

Diarmid Martin

More of a loophole than a mistake. In reality they both flew direct from the US, situations like this need to be clarified.

Hayley Weddell

Don't even know why people need to come here, there's sod all unless they have family. What's the point, all our shops and tourists attractions are shut anyway and have these people been vaccinated,? They were going on about us having vaccination passports? Surely these travellers should have the same, no?

Jill Sullivan

So that means if anyone travels via Ireland, regardless of where they have come from they don’t need to quarantine. It’s just rubbish and there’s no point to the quarantine rules then – absolute stupidity.

If Nicola Sturgeon had just gone the same way as the rest of UK and hotel quarantined red-listed countries, this wouldn’t be an issue. Now people will fly to London or Ireland with negative Covid pre-flight tests from non red-listed countries the main losers will be Scottish airports.

Laura Burrell

What a fussy virus this is - it won't infect people who don't fly direct!

Paul Fagan

A flight from Dubai landing at Edinburgh airport originally had over 60 people booked but landed with six people as the rest of the passengers decided to cancel and rebook for a flight landing at Gatwick, obviously to avoid the Scottish hotel isolation charge. These passengers will inevitably then travel by road or rail to Scotland. So people are already exploiting the loophole. We are an Island, so shut the borders and follow New Zealand’s lead, then maybe we can all get back to a little normality - get kids back to school, adults back to work and maybe save our economy.

Kirsten Wood

That’s what to do - keep our kids off school a wee bit longer but let other folk into the country?

Wow, flies to Dublin from USA, a country where Covid is rife, and walks away because he came here from Dublin. How many fights come straight to Scotland from the high risk countries? Probably not a lot!

Andi Hannah

So someone can get a flight to Scotland from South Africa (which has high numbers of the new variant) via Dublin and not have to quarantine, while someone else from the Canary Islands (which has low numbers) has to quarantine for 10 days - Well done, great planning!

Bryan Wood

I would probably have kept this one quiet. Why should there be a loophole? It's not difficult - you've been abroad, quarantine; you travel from UK, don't. It's literally that simple! Imagine how many others that were released yesterday, and will be, who won't go public.

Susanne Hastie

What a shambles. Should have happened 10 months ago – no flights in or out of the country.

Peter Bradley

Looks like Eire is now part of GB.
