Royal Tour

William and Kate arrive in Edinburgh Waverley during royal tour

Ilona Turner

I think this year is one year they could have skipped a tour! I can’t even leave West Lothian to visit my parents, for god’s sake!

Seems to be one rule for us and another for them! I can’t even go to the local shopping centre for Xmas shopping, yet they can travel the length of the country.

Bert Thomson

So if I travel to Edinburgh to thank the shop staff for their hard work, that's OK? Cool, what time is the train? If an English couple and their large party can travel the length of the country and visit many people and places, hypocrisy. There is nothing essential about their travelling over the border or over council lines. I am sure the workers would be happier taking more money than the grin of some self-entitled couple. There is no difference in their trip than that of his auld man at the start of the year. Hypocrisy.

Corrie Cheyne

Like father, like son. Remember, Charlie knew he was positive when he took himself and his oversized entourage up to Balmoral. Cue unnecessary outbreak in Ballater.

Dawn Anne

Was this essential travel? I think not! Lovely of them to find the time to support our Scottish NHS, workers but maybe the cost of them coming to Scotland could have been put towards a pay increase. What better way to thank our NHS staff?

Outrageous; one rule for them and another for the rest of us. For those who have lost loved ones because of Covid, it’s disrespectful.

Claire Mchale

I totally get why they are doing it, but it’s my nana’s first birthday without her here and my stepdad died on her birthday and I probably won’t be able to go to her grave in January as there are rumors of a full lockdown after Xmas.

Charlie Samuel James

People need to get a grip! They are doing an amazing thing, thanking our Scottish key workers. It’s an honour to have them in our city.

Iain Lancastle

I thought such trips were illegal. Travel restrictions are enforceable by law. Not a good example, which may cause others to disregard the law.

And we in East Lothian are told we can't go to Fort Kinnaird to shop – incredible.

Elaine Miller

How come they can travel from south to north, I cant even visit my family? Rules should be the same for everyone, regardless of status in life.

Marlene Wentworth

Why the tour? Have they not been here before? This tour costs, whereas the monies could have been better spent where needed. I like the Royal family (a few), but while Covid is around they should have stayed at home.

Theresa Notman

Why are they here? I thought we were in lockdown. Are the rules different for them?

Really! When we can’t make important visits to our relatives!

Sheila Robertson

Strange that they can break rules and travel the length and breadth of the country.

Robert Speirs

What do you mean royal tour? They should stay at home, don’t they know there's a pandemic and the money it cost for the tour could be spent on the NHS.

Nette Sharpe

Funny that! We are not allowed to visit the family or go shopping in Edinburgh at the moment, but hey ho, at least the royal family are allowed. Looks like they have no restrictions whatsoever.

Why? I can't leave Midlothian. How come they can move around council areas and we can't in our own country?

Rosco Black

They are not welcome in Edinburgh - especially during Covid restrictions. Its just another PR stunt to raise the profile of the Royal Family, a family whose previous history in world affairs is appalling. Dissolve the monarchy.

Geraint Le Boeuf

Prince William has arrived in the North British capital to visit his future loyal subjects. Roll out the red carpets.

Shona Gollan

Sends the wrong message that they are doing non essential travel here and we can’t leave our own area.

Graeme Kay

They are touring to thank frontline workers who have been doing a great job through all this. A great morale boost to all of them who they meet today.
