Covid vaccine

The phone line operated by NHS Lothian for staff to book Covid-19 vaccinations has been “overwhelmed” on its third day of operation

Derek Mack

To answer those who are saying they should be booking you in and that would save you hanging on the phone for ages, it's just like the flu jab, you need to make your appointment. It's your choice to have it, they can't allocated vaccine slots to people who don't want it and won't turn up. Various groups will be notified when it's their turn, this will all take time and will be frustrating at times - remember this is huge.

To be fair, we have to expect this in the first few days. Thousands wanting booked and you can’t just deploy everyone to answer phones. It will ease and people will book. As long as the first lot of days are filled, I think that’s a great start!

Edwin Mitchell

Give it a break, we will all get done eventually, it’s a massive operation.

Kirsty Leslie

The team that has been set up to make these appointments isn't a huge team. People need to realise the sheer volume of staff calling and stop being so bloomin’ selfish. You're doing well if you have 2-3 hours to sit on hold!

Ian Addison

This was always going to be an issue, as it is with everything when people want something ASAP - systems just can’t cope with the sheer volume. If it was to be for all NHS staff, then it should just be set up in the place of work for them. Also what’s the rush? It’s been here for nearly a year, a couple more weeks ain’t gonna make that much difference.

Was that not inevit-able? Instead of criticising, praise might be good.

Elaine Minty

We all need to show patience at this difficult time, we will all get there.

Lisa Jones

Couldn’t even queue on the phone yesterday, asked to call back at a later date!

Susan Walker

Why would it be overwhelmed? They decide who gets it.

Yolonde Carroll

For goodness sake! This service only rolled out a day ago! Give them a chance!

People are so impatient that they want the vaccine on day one when they can get it tomorrow, next week or next month. We've waited months, so waiting a little longer is OK for me, while other high priority people get it first.

Joscelyn Williamson

Who knew day one would be so busy!

Bake Off honour

Council urged to honour Great British Bake Off star Peter Sawkins

Emma Porter

Fabulous that he won and I hope he opens a bakery in Edinburgh one day, but it's baking. Thousands of people all over Scotland have skills that they are fab at. He doesn't need to be honoured for being good at his hobby.

Jane Lawrie

Give us a break, honestly. He won a competition, well done to him, but anything else would be a waste of money, which we really don't have.

Perhaps a knighthood or the keys to the city would be fitting? Edinburgh has countless unsung heroes every day of the year.

Stuart Robertson

A statue somewhere in the Gardens is a must, followed by a street named after him, en-route to any hospital where the life saving staff of the NHS drive up to work every day. The city is in awe of such important cake makers.

Carol-Ann Blaikie

This young man did himself proud and I'm sure he wouldn't be all that bothered about recognition for his achievement. He doesn't deserve all this negative attention.

Ian Mycko

Get a life! He's a nice guy, but all he did was win a baking competition. Nurses are our heroes, not bakers.

Why? He was brilliant. Very likable and personable, but that doesn't mean he's earned the keys to the city or a street named after him. He produced some amazing food, but come on folks, recognition!?

Smith C Karen

For being the winner of a baking show? There are far more worthy achievements which should be acknowledged and honoured, I think.

Lorraine Blyth

He won a baking show. He didn’t break some world record or raise millions of £’s or devise some innovative way to save the planet. HE BAKED SOME CAKES!

Jimmy Hendry

This man achieved a great fete for Scotland,a hero. The FM should be involved, maybe rename the airport after him.
