Tram extension - your views online

This is a joke, right? The tram has been an utter farce from day one, losing tens of millions of pounds a year, killing off businesses, causing relentless traffic congestion and pollution and misery for travellers and residents. And for what? There is nothing a tram can do that a bus can’t do better, more cheaply, with far greater flexibility and without the massive inconvenience of digging up roads for decades.
Chris Poon
So, while council spends three decades blocking up roads to build the tram to the infirmary, ambulances have to go the long way to get there?

Hide AdA definite NOOOOOOOO. Scrap them altogether and open Suburban line. Much cheaper.

They are having a laugh after all the disruption we have had in the city for years – and it's still not finished.
Davie Lawrie
So if a tram breaks down on the way to the hospital it blocks the road for an ambulance!? Yep that defo sounds like an Edinburgh Council thing!
Malcolm Devlin
I shall believe that when I’m sat on a tram by the hospital. This route has been proposed for a long time as it came up in the searches when I bought my house five years ago.
Leslie Brand
To infirmary and beyond!

Crippling the city even more.
William Findlay
Half the time the buses and taxis are not in them. The city is going to die with all these anti-car transport policies. Bits of Edinburgh like Kirkliston don't even have a bus service by Lothian Buses into the city.
Colin Gasman Mackay
How do they expect shops to receive deliveries if they’re on a street with a bus lane?
Ian Munro
Are the council able to provide evidence that buses are being delayed outwith the hours bus lanes are in force? No, this is just another attack on the motorist and an opportunity to make more money. Also unsure how this fits with their low emissions policy as more tailbacks will undoubtedly happen when two lanes are reduced to one. Time for the council to stop listening to the Lycra brigade and other anti-car "pressure" groups and serve all Edinburgh citizens.

Hide AdAye bus lanes are rammed at half seven on Sunday mornings right enough! Just pure greed to catch more people with the umpteen cameras they have installed in the last couple years.
Alison Paton
Won't be long til they make them 24 hours.
Border Force strike
Staff to walk out at several UK airports this Christmas
Mac Mackenzie
Shouldn’t be allowed to strike- they’re supposed to be protecting our borders! Harsh, but reality.
Avery Lcl
I wouldn't mind the disruption and inconvenience. Those hard-working workers should not be underpaid. Especially if, as the government repeatedly say, they want to help with the living cost crisis. Give them the pay rise that they deserve.
Stuart Roy McIvor
Plus Highlands and Islands staff are going on strike.
Michael Fairbairn
Tories should lead by example and give them a 20 per cent rise over the board as they got.

Hide AdHow long before the whole of the work force in this country go on strike? It’s becoming a joke – people work their backside off for a rubbish wage while MPs make a mockery of all those hard workers by mostly sitting on their backsides earning around £100k per year. In the Lords they claim for every expense they can and get an allowance for every day they turn up to Westminster just to fall asleep.
Cowgate blaze
Remembering the blaze which ravaged Edinburgh’s Old Town 20 years ago
Corran Lyon
I lived at the bottom of the Pleasance when this happened. I remember the thick smoke literally moving along the Cowgate towards us. Scary and sad for the businesses lost.
Fiona Willis
We were out celebrating my 21st that night! Unfortunately the restaurant was evacuated after we paid the bill!
