This is what Edinburgh Evening News readers said when Nicola Sturgeon announced five-tiered restrictions

At today’s Coronavirus briefing, the First Minister set out a new five-level set of restrictions dependent on different local authority areas in Scotland. The new restrictions will come into effect on November 2.

With some of us in favour of the new system and others against, we asked our readers what they think about the five-tiered measures.

Many were cautious of the new tier based system, claiming that it would cause confusion.

Pamela Strachan said: “Quite a mish mash of levels with each blending into the other to make things even more difficult to understand. No mention of review times, how quickly levels will change, can we be forced from level 2 straight to level 5 and what number of positives tests or deaths changes the tier to an increased or decreased level.

"I cant keep up.”

Lorraine Rourke agreed that the system would lead to confusion and noted that it was party politics at play.

She said: "Why does politicians always make things difficult? Would Red, Amber, Green not have been suffice. People totally understand this.”

However, Laura Burrell commented that if everyone follows the restrictions there will be no need for a tiered system. She said: “I think - if EVERYONE would just follow the flaming guidelines, we could get this virus under control, thus not needing any tiers, and be able to get back to some sort of normality - seriously - it can't be so difficult.”

Lisa Jane Rowan was in favour of the new system, saying the introduction of tiers was a 'thought out, sustainable approach’ similar to the likes of Sweden’s restrictions.

She said: “It looks like tier 0 is what Sweden have had in place for the last 7 months.”

Billy Mcleary who claims he has been isolating and following the rules, voiced his frustrations with the virus, commenting that no government could eradicate it.

He said: “But I think at some stage we are going to have to just take it on the chin I don’t think any government can eradicate this virus, really hope I’m wrong.

"Stay safe though and wash yer hands.”

Ellie Mayze showed she was conflicted about the announcement. She said: “It's simple for people to follow (so long as you can count and read), yet complex enough to ensure that different areas are treated as per their covid-19 risks. Hopefully anyone baffled will be able to talk to a friend or family member who can explain it.”

Richard Stewart believes that the Scottish government have “failed miserably” in achieving the country’s support with the measures.

He said: “This was the Scottish government’s opportunity to get the country behind them? Unfortunately they have failed miserably with a tier system resembling The Krypton Factor.”

Alison Scott tried to remain optimistic about the new tiered solution, saying: “Hopefully if everyone takes this seriously then we can drive it back down again.”
