The youngster was fascinated by the bird, which is native to the Neotropics and is a resident breeder in forests across southern Mexico and Trinidad, Central America, southern Brazil, Paraguay and northwestern Argentina.
Chilli belongs to the Pulsatrix perspicillata class – one of six subspecies of spectacled owl.
The species is largely nocturnal, with birds becoming active at dusk and stopping as the sun rises.
