Paris painting is in fashion

A MAJOR painting by the Edinburgh-born colourist John Duncan Fergusson will be one of the highlights at a sale in the city.

The work, At the Milliner’s Paris, depicts some of the dressmaking assistants that the late Fergusson met at the louche Cafe d’Harcourt in the Latin Quarter on the Left Bank in Paris, where they would gather after work and mingle with students from the nearby Sorbonne University.

The sale will take place at Bonhams in Edinburgh on August 31, with the work estimated at £180,000-£250,000.
