The UK’s top curry restaurant has helped to kick-start the renaissance of its local amateur football team with a new sponsorship deal.

The Radhuni is sponsoring Loanhead Amateur Football Club, which plans to start fielding a team in a regional league next season. The restaurant, on Loanhead’s Clerk Street, will sponsor its away strip.

The club, which folded last year, has applied to join the Lothian and Edinburgh Amateur Football Association (LEAFA) and hopes to start competing in Sunday matches.

Manager Keith Angus said: “It’s great to have the prospect of resurrecting Loanhead Amateur Football Club. Sponsors like The Radhuni are a vital part of bringing it back to life.”

Habibur Khan, Radhuni’s managing partner, added: “It’s a real joy for us to be playing our part in creating more opportunities for local people to play sport.”
