"We were initially debating whether it was on a training exercise, then we saw the stretcher.”

It is understood that a woman fell on the hill and injured her leg, and Scotland's Charity Air Ambulance was called in to transport her to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.

It had travelled from it’s base at Perth airport, and could be seen at around 10.30am flying over central Edinburgh.

Alistair added: “It’s very slippy up on the hills today.

"It’s snowed over the ice, so you can’t always see where the ice is.

People were falling over all over the place.”
