A brass-necked conman attempted to pass off a 'twenty poond’ note at Dofos pet shop in Leith over the weekend, shocked staff have revealed.

The popular store on Leith Walk posted a picture of the counterfeit £20 note on its Facebook page, warning the public that 'twenty poond' notes will not be accepted in the store.

Writing on Facebook, store owner Craig Davidson said: “First time I’ve been handed a twenty POOND note.

“Just to clarify, all notes will not be returned if fake and are passed to the police.”

Mr Davidson now plans to hand it in to the police - but said it's not the first time someone has tried to pass off a fake note in the store.

He told the Daily Record: “I had a kid come in once and try and hand me a tenner that looked like he’d printed it off his mum’s printer but this was incredibly terrible - I’m not even angry any more.”

The bungling attempt by a male who was attempting to buy two parcels of cat food was captured on the store’s CCTV at around 2pm on Sunday.

“He came in after a couple of parcels of cat food," said Davidson. “I asked him if he was joking - I knew instantly that it was a fake note because it felt terrible.”
