Before Teigen’s account went dark, the cookbook author wrote a thread of Tweets on Wednesday (24 March) to say farewell.

She wrote: “Hey. For over 10 years, you guys have been my world. I honestly owe so much to this world we have created here. I truly consider so many of you my actual friends.

“But it’s time for me to say goodbye. This no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively, and I think that’s the right time to call something.

“My life goal is to make people happy. The pain I feel when I don’t is too much for me. I’ve always been portrayed as the strong clap back girl but I’m just not.

“My desire to be liked and fear of pissing people off has made me somebody you didn’t sign up for, and a different human than I started out here as! Live well, tweeters. Please know all I ever cared about was you!!!”

Teigen added that she has “learned an incredible amount” from her time on Twitter, but said that “one thing I haven’t learned is how to block out the negativity” and that she is “sensitive”.

She wrote: “I don’t wanna be this way! I just am! But I love you guys and I cherish our time together, I truly do. I also hate you.”

“I encourage you to know and never forget that your words matter. No matter what you see, what that person portrays, or your intention. For years I have taken so many small, two follower count pouches that at this point, I am honestly deeply bruised.”

Her final tweet was “<3” which signifies a love heart.

One person wrote: “So Chrissy Teigen deleted her account. So basically a woman of colour who is grieving the loss of a child and simply wanted to share funny thoughts and yummy recipes was bullied to such an extreme that she had to leave in order to protect her mental health. Good job sucky people.”

“Crap. Chrissy Teigen left Twitter. I can’t blame her, but crap. Twitter folks, some of you just plain suck,” Tweeted another.

Is Teigen still active on other social media?

Currently, Tiegen’s Instagram account is still up, and she has been actively posting over the past few days.

The same day that she deleted her Twitter account, Teigen posted three times on Instagram - a picture of herself and her two children, a video of herself dressed up as a mushroom and a picture of pad thai, showcasing a recipe from her cookbook.

Has Teigen been involved in Twitter controversies?

A few days prior to Tiegen deleting her account, she received criticism after announcing that she and Kris Jenner were releasing a line of plant based cleaning products called Safely.

Teigen was criticised for a number of things regarding the launch - from working with Jenner to being accused of “cashing in” on the pandemic.

Responding to the backlash, Teigen Tweeted: “I really don’t wake up every day trying to make you mad, but somehow I manage. And u say I have no talent. That’s something I guess.”

One person took aim at Teigen and Jenner’s appearance, saying that their faces “are pumped full of toxins”, to which Teigen responded by writing: “You guys are truly just f*****g mean. I’ll never get over it.”

Last year, Tiegen suffered from a pregnancy loss, something which she documented online with pictures.

While she and her husband, John Legend, also received an outpouring of kind words and sympathies online, the two were also criticised for sharing their grief so publically online.

Commenters said that the photos Tiegan shared from the hospital should have been reserved for family and friends.

In an essay responding to the backlash, Tiegen wrote: “I cannot express how little I care that you hate the photos. How little I care that it’s something you wouldn’t have done.

“I lived it, I chose to do it, and more than anything, these photos aren't for anyone but the people who have lived this or are curious enough to wonder what something like this is like.

“These photos are for the people who need them. The thoughts of others do not matter to me.”

In May 2020, Teigan also took another break from Twitter, priviting her account following a dispute with New York Times food writer Alison Roman.
