Colinton/Fairmilehead councillor Jason Rust said: “I'm really concerned that we are again not unexpectedly at winter time and the Council has not got it right.

“Of course it's a challenging situation, but there should be adequate winter maintenance staff and ability to redeploy staff to ensure resources are there.

“Grit bins across my ward have been lying empty and residents should not need to wait for days for them to be filled.

“The Council ought to have considered the wider impact of lockdown and what it meant for priorities and routes.

“Residential areas have been left behind with treacherous pavements and roads, despite the sizeable amount of Council Tax collected.”
