Colinton Primary School teachers 'keep the blues away' outside classroom with musical number

A group of teachers from an Edinburgh primary school have created a video to ‘keep the blues away’ during their isolation.

Teachers from Colinton Primary School each recorded sections of them singing and dancing along to Fischy Music’s track ‘Keep the Blues Away’ for a cheerful video online.

Rachel Billes, a teacher at the school wrote: “Ever wondered what happens to a group of teachers who can't be in their classrooms? Here's your answer...! An incredible team with one joint aim - to keep those blues away!”

The video, uploaded on Thursday, shows the group of teachers singing, dancing, spending time in the sun and playing instruments with an aim to put a smile on viewers faces.

The teachers at home kept spirits up with their video

Rachel said: “We had seen the idea from another school on Facebook and they were doing another Fishy Music song which started the idea and I said to my colleagues that I could organise something similar and a lot of people showed interest in doing it.

“I just sent some example videos of me jumping around in my room in dungarees and everyone just responded really well.

“Being teachers we’re creative people we’re not getting to use that in the classroom at the moment, so this was a way to get everyone doing something creative and fun for the kids and their families, and it’s put a smile on their faces.

“It’s lovely, we’ve lots of positive feedback from kids and their families about it.

“As a teacher you’re leading by example, this is a way for the kids we teach to still see us and gives them an idea to find fun creative ways to use their time.

“I’ve worked closely with Stephen Fischbacher before and his music is really popular for kids in Edinburgh. Fischy Music is an excellent charity and great at supporting kids at this time.”
