Chris Kinsman, from Newtongrange, shared an image of a heartwarming poem penned by his 11-year-old daughter Mollie to remind others that coronavirus has touched the lives of children as well.

Mollie, a primary 7 from Newtongrange Primary School, began writing a love song however it quickly turned in to a poem which she related to the Covid-19 crisis, after writing the poem, she surprised her parents with it which made them see the situation through children's eyes.

She said that while the song wasn’t written for any one person in particular, it made her realise how much lockdown had made her miss her friends and her grandparents, but is staying at home in the company of her family alongside her brother. She said she cannot wait to return to school and her other activities once life returns to normal.

The poem reads: “I sometimes hear your voice in my head, I think about you when I lay in bed.

“I hope this crisis will be over soon, I have been wishing this whole afternoon.

“I hope I will get to meet you again, I hope we will always stay friends.

“I’m sure everything will be just fine, I hope you will still stay mine.

“I know everything is really tough, we have definitely dealt with enough.

“We will definitely be ok, we have just made history!

“Some days we will all feel quite sad, but when this is over we will feel quite glad.

“Thank you for listening to my song, please stay safe, healthy, and strong.”

Chris added: “Mollie thinks she is lucky to be in a generation with so much technology such as FaceTime and Zoom. She has also enjoyed finding new walks in our local area and enjoying the wildlife which is more apparent with the lack of traffic!”
