Zane Chetty is set to show off his culinary skills in the current series of MasterChef and is using his newfound fame to help raise vital funds for a cause close to his heart.

Over the next two weekends, he will be setting a barbecue up in Duloch Park, Dunfermline to let neighbours and visitors try a piece of his cooking free of charge and on the final day, March 19, he will serve up a three course meal to a lucky winner.

“The idea to cook this year was because of MasterChef,” Zane said, “I normally do a fundraiser most years. The first year I walked 26 miles to Edinburgh Castle for Comic Relief and I’ve walked 42 miles from Kent to Buckingham Palace to raise money as well.

“For the next two weekends I am setting up a barbecue for people to come and try free of charge and on the final day, March 19 I am cooking a three course meal which I will deliver to someone in Edinburgh or Fife who has made a donation to the fundraiser.”

Mr Chetty says his speciality is fusion cooking and experimenting with techniques and flavours he has known his whole life from when he grew up in South Africa, so those attending will be able to get a taste of kebabs, rotis and meatballs as well as a vegetarian option, and hot dogs for kids.

He added: “I’ve been cooking for a long time. My grandmother was south asian and her husband was of Persian descent, so there were a lot of different foods.

“She would celebrate Diwali and cook a serious amount of food from scratch so we always helped out and when I moved to London when I was 21, I was forced to cook for myself. It all started from there and I love experimenting and being inspired by food from my travels.”

Information about Zane’s fundraiser can be found on his Instagram, and those wishing to donate to be in with the chance of winning the meal can do so on the Just Giving page.
