On Monday 15 June, the animal welfare charity announced they would begin to rehome cats and dogs for the first time since closing up on 23 March.

Throughout lockdown, frontline staff continued to care for the animals in need of homes at the centre and has continued to take in stray, lost and abandoned dogs and cats.

As they reopen their doors for people to give animals their forever homes, social distancing measures are still in place and the rehoming process has had an overhaul such as initial rehoming enquiries to now be taken via an online form.

A telephone interview follows for people who may be a match for an animal and only if the interview is successful will the person be invited in to meet the dog or cat and discuss rehoming further.

The animal rehoming centre have stressed that walk-in visits will not be allowed whilst social distancing measures remain in place.

Nonnie Kent, rehoming operations manager told Third Force News: “We are so excited to be able to start rehoming again. There are so many amazing dogs and cats ready and waiting for their forever homes and we know that there are so many people who are waiting to rehome.

“Whilst many people are spending a lot more time at home at the moment, we would strongly encourage anyone who is thinking about bringing a new pet into their life to carefully think through what their lifestyle will be post-pandemic and how a dog or cat will fit into that. We know just how much joy a pet can bring and we want to make sure we find that perfect match.”
