Edinburgh football club pays tribute to talented young player with 'great potential' and ‘heart of gold’ who was found dead near Arthur’s Seat

The 18-year-old, named locally at Conan Murie, was found in Meadowfield Park near Arthur’s Seat on Monday morning.
Police confirmed there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.

Hide AdThe young footballer played previously for the Civil Service Strollers, Hutchison Vale and Cavalry Park and most recently as a central midfielder for Edinburgh South FC.
Edinburgh South FC shared a touching tribute this evening which read: “It is with great sadness that yesterday we learned about the passing of Conan Murie.
“Conan joined our under 20s side at the start of the season and very quickly became a member of the first team. His ability and potential was clear for everyone to see.
“Not only was Conan a talented young footballer with great potential, he was also an exceptional young man who had a heart of gold. He possessed great character, personality and was always full of laughter.

“Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time.”
Youth Football Scotland (YFS) said: “It’s with great sadness that YFS has learned of the passing of Conan Murie.
"Conan played with Edinburgh South U20s (having recently made his first team debut) and was previously with Civil Service Strollers, Hutchison Vale and Cavalry Park.

A post from Hutchison Vale said: “The club would like to share its great sadness for the news of the passing of former player Conan Murie.
"Conan played for the club in 2018/19 and featured in the under 17s side after signing from Cavalry Park. Renowned for his energy and exceptional composure on the ball, Conan was a talented individual and was a very popular figure at the club.
"Our thoughts are with his family at this difficult time

Hide AdDozens of Conan’s heartbroken friends and fellow team mates have paid tribute to the footballer and offered condolences to his family on social media today.
One friend described him as a “class act” who would be dearly missed, and said he had “nothing but fond memories" of Conan and praised him for the way he welcomed him into a football club.
Another person described him as a “great young lad who gave everything he had” and “trained the way he played.”
Yet another said he was a “great” football player who had the “heart of a lion” in midfield.
