A delightful group of lurchers currently staying at the Dogs Trust West Calder are looking for their forever home.
Known for their loving nature and loyalty, Lurchers are sighthounds (such as a Greyhound, Whippet or Saluki) crossed with another breed and therefore differ in size and colour – but despite their adorable qualities, Lurchers can often spend longer in the charity’s care than other breeds.
Now, the Dogs Trust West Calder is asking people to consider giving a forever home to one of its long-legged residents.
Susan Tonner, manager at Dogs Trust West Calder said: “Lurchers tend to spend longer in our care than other breeds and are often overlooked. So it’s important for us to try and dispel any misconceptions that may exist about the breed and urge people not to rule out a Lurcher as their perfect pet.
"It is a myth that they need a huge amount of exercise and long walks, they do need regular exercise like every dog, but they also very much relish lounging on the sofa. Lurchers really are at their happiest when they are with their owner, the one they love.”
Susan added: “We are currently caring for four Lurchers that are desperate to build that special bond with a new owner and find a sofa to call their own. All have so much love to offer and await their second chance in life.”
So without any further ado – here are six long-legged pups who can’t wait to meet you.

5. Leslie
10 year-old Leslie is a very friendly lurcher looking for a home where he can enjoy his twilight years. Leslie would like to have his own enclosed garden so he can relax and stretch out his legs. He does have separation anxiety and struggles to be left alone so he will need someone understanding of this who can stay home to keep him company. He could live with another calm, low energy dog and can live with children aged 10 years old and over. Leslie walks well on lead and enjoys adventures along the beach making doggy friends. He is very sociable loves to accompany his owners on outings, and is especially well mannered in dog friendly cafes. Photo: Dogs Trust
Lucy is a sweet and affectionate four-year-old Lurcher who loves spending time with her family. She is full of beans and is always great fun to be around! Lucy is looking for a quiet adult only home with no other pets. Lucy loves the garden and is looking for active owners, although she does love to curl up in her bed or on the sofa for a good snooze at the end of the day. Lucy would ideally like someone that is home most of the day to keep her company and is more than willing to join you on a trip in the car. Lucy knows a large variety of tricks including a dramatic play dead, paw and even walking between your legs. She is a very playful girl who adores a squeaky toy and to play tug of war. Lucas is a two-year-old greyhound who loves nothing more than spending time with his family and soaking up all the love. He is a friendly lad who will ask everyone he meets for a gentle fuss. He can live with children aged 10 and above and although he is happy around other polite dogs out on walks, he would like to be the only pet in the home. Lucas is housetrained and happy to be left for a couple of hours although he would like someone home the majority of the time whilst he settles into his new home. He loves going out on his walks where he can do lots of exploring and he walks beautifully on his lead! Lucas has a strong desire to chase after small furries and will need to be kept on his lead and wear his muzzle when on walks, which he is more than happy to do. Photo: Dogs Trust
