As delighted locals rush to their windows to see the first fluttering of snow in the early hours of Tuesday morning, it didn’t take long for many to throw on their warmest coats and rush out to enjoy the winter wonderland.

Iona walked around the centre of the city at around 1.30am.

Her pictures show a snowboarder climbing the mound after making fresh tracks on the slope and at least four separate groups building snowmen on the Castle Esplanade.

The video, showing children sledging happily in the snow was taken by Lucy Norris in the Meadows on Tuesday morning.

The Met Office released a yellow weather warning as snow and ice hit east and central Scotland throughout Monday night.
