Under an hour away by train, Scotland's largest city has many attractions for visitors of all ages to enjoy. Including Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum, The Riverside Museum of Transport and Travel and Glengoyne Distillery. For football fans, there is the homes of the Old Firm of Scottish football, Rangers and Celtic, Ibrox and Parkhead, as well as Scotland's national football stadium Hampden Park, which houses the Scottish football museum. Also famed for its bustling nightlife, visitors could also take in a concert at one of Glasgow's many music venues, including the OVO Hydro Arena by the Clyde.

Although there are no direct trains from Edinburgh to Cardiff, you can get to the Welsh Capital in around six or seven hours with one change at Crewe. Attractions include the historic Cardiff Castle (pictured), St Fagans National Museum of History and the National Museum Cardiff. You could also pop down to Cardiff Bay to visit a host of bars and restaurants as well as the Welsh Parliament - The Senedd. You can also learn all about science at Techniquest or take a trip out to historic Flat Holm island.
