Edinburgh Zoo: Pictures show the Capital's new adorable baby pygmy hippo who has just been named
Edinburgh Zoo’s new and adorable baby pygmy hippo has just been named.
The calf, who was born at the zoo in April, has been named Amara in a tribute to the species’ native home of West Africa.
The name means ‘grace’ and was chosen by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery.
In a statement on Amara, the zoo added: “The RZSS WildGenes team contribute to work to protect animals across the globe, including publishing the first ever genomic study of pygmy hippos.”
