Edinburgh has some fantastic areas to enjoy, including the peaceful oasis of Dean Village, and the bustling nightspots of the Grassmarket and the Shore in Leith.
There are also some great areas on our doorstep, a stone’s throw from Scotland’s capital city, including the tranquil and eye-catching historic towns of South Queensferry and Linlithgow, as well as the incredible countryside on offer for you to enjoy at the Pentland Hills, overlooking Edinburgh from the south.

9. Longstone
Longstone is a great Edinburgh place to live. This peaceful neighbourhood has so many great spots nearby for walking, running or cycling, including the Colinton Dell, Union Canal and Water of Leith, and the welcoming Redhall Park is another Oasis of calm and a great spot during any summer sunshine. And, most importantly, Longstone is also home to the best Edinburgh 'chippy' in my opinion, Gino's at Longstone Road, pictured above, a tasty treat for all the family. | Submitted Photo: Third Party

10. The Pentlands
Ok, not an area as such, the Pentland Hills offer endless trails and paths, linking several picturesque reservoirs. Just outside Edinburgh, this is a great place to escape to with the family for some picturesque and relaxing walks, getting the city smog out of your lungs and basking in nature. | Canva/Getty Images

11. Davidson's Mains
Another lovely peaceful part of town Davidsons Mains, is a quiet but not too quiet area, with some great bars, takeaways and green space, I have some fantastic memories of visiting the pubs on the Main Street when I lived in nearby Barnton, including the fantastic beer garden at Ye Olde Inn. Oh, and of course, I also got married at a church at the Main Street here, can't forget that!! | Submitted Photo: MOV8
