Ice skaters have descended on a frozen pond in Edinburgh this morning, as temperatures in the Capital look set to remain near freezing.

The scene was captured by an onlooker in Inverleith Park, who said around 30 people were enjoying the make-shift ice rink, with 40 others enjoying the spectacle from the banks.

“It's shiveringly cold today and the pond has completely frozen over - solid as a rock,” they told the Evening News, “but it was quite warming to see families, young and old, out enjoying the winter sunshine, skating, sliding and slipping over the ice.”

The mercury is set to stay between -1C and 3C across Edinburgh next week, with forecasters predicting sleet showers and strong winds on Wednesday.

A video even shows some revellers playing an impromptu game of ice hockey on the ice in Queens Park.
