Leith Docks: Blaze which sent clouds of black smoke billowing above city started in machinery engine

The Port of Leith have confirmed that the fire that was reported earlier today started within an engine bay of a piece of equipment in a tenant’s storage yard earlier today.

The Port of Leith also confirmed that the fire has now been extinguished.

A statement from them said: “We confirm that there was a fire within the engine bay of a piece of plant in a tenant’s storage yard at the Port of Leith earlier today. No-one

was hurt. The fire is now out and we are grateful to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service who responded quickly.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said earlier today: “We were alerted at 12.18pm on Wednesday, November 25 to reports of a fire within a large machine

at Bredero House, Imperial Docks, Leith.

“Operations Control mobilised four appliances to the scene where crews are working to extinguish the fire.

“There are no reported casualties at this time.”
