Loanhead man sings for our NHS Angels

A Loanhead man has re-written the song Angels to show his appreciation for the NHS staff on the frontline of the fight against the coronavirus.

Within days, the video of business development manager Mark Allard (54) singing the re-worked Robbie Williams song had more than 10,000 views on YouTube.

He said: “I was watching the news and there was a lot of stuff about the NHS. And on Facebook there were pictures of staff’s faces all marked by the masks, which really struck me.

“So I went into my man cave and came up with the song. I recorded it and sent it to some friends who are nurses and they loved it. They said I should put it online and it’s grown from there.

“It has been shared across NHS platforms and I just want more of our heroes to see it. They do realise that we appreciate them and most of us are staying at home to help ease the pressure on them. Music is just a hobby to me, but the response to the song has been quite emotional.”

As well as singing for the NHS, Mark has been entertaining his Dalum Grove neighbours. He said: “I put the speaker on to my driveway and put a note round the neighbours to say I am singing.

“We had some people sitting at their front door with a drink and people dancing in their driveway. People from other streets were commenting on it as well.

“It just gives people something to do for an hour and raises spirits. I plan to do more to cheer people up if needed. It takes people’s minds of things for a while.

“I really enjoy it. More from the enjoyment other people get out of it.”
