The Princes Street fixture was well known throughout the city and received and MBE as well as the Edinburgh Award. He sadly passed away with his family around him on Monday evening at the age of 99. 13. Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur medals
The French Consul General, Emmanuel Cocher, presented the Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur medals, Frances highest National Order, to five Scottish veterans, including Tom in 2016.
14. Chevalier in the Ordre national de la Lgion d'honneur
Tom was appointed the rank of Chevalier in the Ordre national de la Lgion d'honneur by France for his efforts in WW2. This is the highest rank awarded by France and is the equivalent of the Victoria Cross
15. Sapper
Sapper Bill Nicholson presents Tom Gilzean with a photobook of pictures from the 2013 Sapperfest which Tom attended as the oldest sapper at the age of 93
