AN overwhelmed pet owner has heaped praise on a local charity for giving her sick dog a second chance at life after offering to partly fund vital treatment for the beloved puppy.

Charley-Jane O'Malley, 23, put a desperate plea online last week asking for help with an expensive vet bill after her ten-month-old pup, Jango, was diagnosed with pancreatitis.

The GOFUNDME page has since raised over £3000, and the Penicuik resident said she was "completely overwhelmed" by the support they have received.

Jango has now received the life-saving operation, however the sick pooch's condition has not improved, leading to referral to The Dick Vet General Practice for further treatment.

Charley-Jane said: "I hoped the operation would fix everything but he's still very unwell. He's different, he used to be the most hyper little puppy, a proper menace, but now he just sleeps all day."

The concerned dog owner has been warned that further treatment could cost thousands, but not ready to give up the fight, the cafe manager is working extra hours putting each paycheck towards Jango's care.

She said: "It's been hard but I am determined to keep going and make sure I do everything I can for Jango, he's my best friend and I don't even want to think about life without him."

Scared and unsure how to raise the funds needed luck turned in the pair's favour yesterday morning when help was offered by Dog Aid Society of Scotland.

The charity, based in Blackford, has said they will help fund part of the lovable puppy’s treatment which Charley-Jane says will help give him a "second chance" at life.

She added: "It's unbelievable how kind the dog-community in Edinburgh have been with people donating to Jango's GoFundMe page and now this. A woman from Dog Aid sent me through the forms and we are now trying to work out exact costs but I am hopeful he will pull through with more help."

She added: "I am grateful but still very scared that he won't get better, I'm not going to give up though, I never will."

While the money from Dog Aid will be a ‘big help’ Charley-Jane says they still have a long way to go to afford the care Jango needs.

But she remains hopeful that further donations from members of the public combined with help from Dog’s Aid will ensure her ‘best friend’ is on the mend soon.

Seldom apart, the pair have an exceptionally close bond and the clever puppy even helps his owner manage her diabetes.

Charley-Jane was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at nineyears-old and has struggled with anxiety over the condition since.

But the loyal pet has learned to go and raise an alert when her blood sugar is running dangerously low - even late at night when Charley is fast asleep in bed.

Charley-Jane said: "My diabetes has always made me anxious and I have never been confident dealing with it on my own but Jango can tell when my blood is not normal, even when I'm sleeping, I'll feel him licking my face and barking and then when I check my blood is always really low. It's like he can sense something is not right, having him around gives me the confidence to do more things by myself."
