Police appeal after vehicle damaged during argument between couple

Police in Edinburgh are looking to trace a male and female who were involved in a suspected assault in the south of the city on Monday, September 5.

At around 3pm a witness saw a man and a woman arguing within a silver Ford Focus as it sat parked on Gilmerton Road near Liberton High School.

The incident quickly escalated and the dispute spilled out onto the street resulting in the vehicle sustaining damage to its windscreen.

The man, thereafter, drove off while the woman left the scene on foot heading in the direction of Gilmerton. She did not appear injured but was visibly upset.

The Ford Focus, which has the registration NJ52 AVG, was later seized on Stennis Gardens. The male was seen leaving the car heading in the direction of Malbet Wynd while carrying a small child who was wearing a fur style jacket.

Officers are now carrying out enquiries in an effort to trace both parties and are today appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

The male is said to be white, in his 20’s, 5ft 8ins tall, slim build with short black hair. He was wearing jeans, trainers and a blue polo shirt, which he removed during the altercation.

The woman is around 20-years-old, slim, has long dirty blond/mousey brown hair in a ponytail and wore blue jeans with a short black leather jacket. She was carrying a small purple and pink rucksack.

Sergeant Patricia Clark of Howdenhall police station said: “At this time our priority is to trace these individuals and ensure that they are okay.

“This incident caused considerable alarm in the immediate area and we want to establish the full set of circumstances that led up to this altercation.

“Today I appeal directly to both parties to contact police immediately. I also urge anyone who can help identify this man and woman to come forward.”
